First Break features cover story on impact of CSEM

The EAGE publication First Break featured a cover story in November called “The impact of CSEM on exploration decisions and seismic: two case studies from the Barents Sea.”

Authors Stein Fanavoll, Pål Gabrielsen and Svein Ellingsrud demonstrated in the article how CSEM accurately predicted the outcome of drilling for more than 20 wells in the Barents Sea and argued that this knowledge could be used to de-risk new prospects.

Significant potential

The potential for such knowledge is significant as unexplored areas in the Barents are in the range of 100,000 km2

In addition to de-risking, Fanavoll et al demonstrated that CSEM can also be used to screen and find anomalous areas in a license-application phase.
